The Small Things

My friend, Mary and Ethan

Me+Alex

Sitting at dinner last night, the weather was beautiful and the sun was shining as it hadn’t done in days. I mentioned that I wanted to see the sunset at the baseball dugout like Elgin had told us he had and so we got our whole group (Me, Alex, Mary, Ethan, Andrew, Sara, Elgin, Ashley, Katie, Ben, Thrasher) to walk up the baseball field and climb on top of the dugout to watch the sun go down over the Kentucky hills. Only thing was, Alex was doing school work and so couldn’t come with us.

We were all having a great time watching the stars come out when I spotted Alex’s tall figure in the distance walking up to us. I knew he would have called if he had wanted me to know he was coming, and so I pretended that I didn’t see him. He wanted to surprise me, so I acted as if I still didn’t see him until he jumped up on the roof and ran at me to catch my attention. It made me so happy that he had come up to the field.

I was cold by the time he came up to join us, so I asked him if he would go down to the car and get the blankets out of my trunk (other girls were cold too). He just smiled, jumped off the top of the dugout and returned with two big blanketsJ. We all huddled together and talked about whatever came to our minds and laughed so hard that my sides still hurt.

The boys decided to play flashlight tag out in the baseball field for a while and the other girls and I sat on top of the dugout and watched. It’s so fun to watch all of them run around and be boys. When the clock struck ten, we decided to head back. It had rained earlier that day and it was still quite muddy, so Alex picked me up and carried me back to campus.

This weekend was great. Saturday, Alex and I spent a couple of hours at the mall (I bought shoes, yay) and then went to P.F. Chang’s for an early dinner. It had become quite cold by the time we were done eating, so he went out to get the car and drove up to the door of the restraunt so I wouldn’t get cold walking to the car. Sunday morning we went to church in downtown Lexington with some girls on my hall. I love going to church with him. There is something really special about watching someone you care for worship and connect with God.
